Gaza Talks Move to Next Phase

Move to Next Phase

Move to Next Phase: More than three months after the Gaza ceasefire began, the second phase of former US President Donald Trump’s peace plan has started. This phase creates a new body called the Gaza Board of Peace. Trump will lead the board. Its members include Jared Kushner, Marco Rubio, Steve Witkoff, and former UK prime minister Tony Blair. Trump calls it the greatest board ever formed. A US general will lead an International Stabilisation Force. This force will manage security and disarmament in Gaza. Former Palestinian Authority official Ali Shaath will lead a Gaza governance committee.

Doubts Over Plan

Many people doubt these new bodies will help Gaza’s people. They also doubt the plan will stop Israel from killing civilians. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed more than 70,000 Palestinians. More than 400 people have died even after the ceasefire began. Israel still occupies Gaza. Many fear the Palestinian committee will have little real power. They believe foreign leaders will make the key decisions. They also fear the plan will protect Israel’s interests.

Business Over Aid

The board says it wants to attract investment and raise money for Gaza. Many see this as a business plan, not a humanitarian effort. Tony Blair’s role has raised concern. As UK prime minister, he supported the US invasion of Iraq. Iraq still suffers from the damage caused by that war.

Unclear Mandate

The role of the International Stabilisation Force remains unclear. People question whether it will force Hamas to give up its weapons. They also question whether Muslim countries will join such a mission. Countries like Pakistan are considering sending troops. They must weigh the risks carefully. Many see this plan as a temporary fix. Others see it as a cover for permanent Israeli control. Lasting peace requires clear action. The occupation must end. Palestinians must gain their own independent state.
