Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Oman, the UAE, and Qatar use mediation diplomacy. They improve their global image through it. They also attract investment. Pakistan can follow this model. It can gain if it hosts US–Iran talks. However, policy direction will decide the outcome.
Historic Mediation
Pakistan has experience in secret diplomacy. The US–China breakthrough in 1971 shows this. That success used Pakistan as a channel. Recently, Pakistan also worked to rebuild ties with the US after Afghanistan tensions.
Iran’s trust remains important. Iran faces threats from Israel. It may see Pakistan as a safer venue than other states. This increases Pakistan’s diplomatic value.
Diplomatic Progress
Recent reports suggest progress. Iran asked the US to pressure Israel on certain issues. This raises the chance of talks in Islamabad. If this happens, Pakistan will gain a major diplomatic success. It may also improve national unity.
Pakistan still faces challenges. It has struggled in Afghanistan mediation. Other countries have also failed there. Relations with India remain tense.
If Pakistan improves ties with Afghanistan and India, it will gain more stability. It will also reduce security risks. Economic growth may follow.
