Medical Science
Medical Science: Healthy societies need medical science and teamwork. I learned this over 30 years in international health. Worked in many countries. I fought pandemics, diseases, and disasters.
Malaria and Health Day
Started my work with malaria. I chose it for a reason. I grew up in a poor rural area in southern Henan, China. Malaria was common there. As a child, I got sick every year. I felt very weak. Later, I became a doctor. I returned home. I led a team for 10 years. We eliminated falciparum malaria. Science made this success possible.
Every year, people mark World Health Day on April 7. This day shows how science saves lives. It also marks the start of the World Health Organization in 1948. Pakistan joined early. Today, more than 190 countries are members.
Health Progress in Pakistan
Pakistan and WHO have worked together for many years. They improved public health. They helped people live longer and healthier lives.
Vaccines are a great success of science. They saved over 150 million lives in 50 years. Pakistan vaccinates millions of children and women each year. Polio vaccines helped over 20 million people walk. Pakistan reduced polio cases by almost 100 percent.
Science Improves Lives
Science also improves daily life. People with weak eyesight use glasses to see clearly. Doctors can treat malaria now. They aim to end it. In Pakistan, doctors test and treat millions of patients. They also give protective nets to families.
Doctors can now cure tuberculosis. In the past, it was very dangerous. I had tuberculosis as a child. Treatment was limited then. I survived by luck. Today, doctors use better medicines. They cure patients fully. They have saved millions of lives.
Safer Treatment and Care
Doctors now perform safer surgeries. They use anesthesia to reduce pain. In Pakistan, doctors treat thousands of children with severe malnutrition each year. They also eliminated trachoma, a disease that causes blindness.
Modern Medicine and Future Hope
Doctors use modern machines to see inside the body. They use X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds. Telemedicine connects doctors with remote patients. Artificial intelligence helps doctors work faster and better.
Young students in Pakistan inspire me. Show curiosity and passion. They support science. They want a healthier future for all. WHO will support them and continue to stand with science.
