Ceasefire Breakdown
President Donald Trump claimed the war had stopped, but fighting continues. Israeli forces hold parts of southern Lebanon. Airstrikes have damaged Beirut heavily. These actions have weakened the US-brokered ceasefire.
Iran responded strongly. It suspended backchannel talks with the United States. It warned that it may block the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil route. Iran tied future talks to a ceasefire in Lebanon and Israeli withdrawal. It also warned of strikes on Israel if the war continues.
Escalating Regional War
Trump later urged Israel to stop its attacks. Still, the fighting shows no clear end.
Israel captured Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon. This marked its deepest advance in more than 20 years. The move showed that the war is spreading beyond Iran and Lebanon.
Hezbollah Conflict History
Israel says it targets Hezbollah in Lebanon. Hezbollah operates in the south and receives Iranian support. Israel killed many of its senior leaders over the past year. Still, Hezbollah continues to launch attacks and resist Israeli forces.
Hezbollah formed in 1982 after Israel invaded Lebanon. It grew into a resistance group and political force. Its actions helped force Israel to leave southern Lebanon in 2000.
Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
