Global Reaction: Narendra Modi faced strong criticism after the 2002 anti-Muslim violence in Gujarat, when he served as chief minister. Critics say his recent visit to Tel Aviv shows clear support for Israel’s government and its actions in Gaza. Some observers also see a growing political link between Hindutva in India and Zionism in Israel.
Rise of Right
In the United States, the Christian Right has reshaped mainstream politics. It promotes strong religious and nationalist ideas. Trumpism has grown into a powerful movement and may continue even after Donald Trump. In Europe, right-wing parties gain support by warning people about immigrants and cultural change.
Nationalist Alliances
Many Muslim-majority countries follow similar trends. Leaders in these states often use conservative or authoritarian policies. Governments across the Arab world, Southwest Asia, and Indonesia rely on strong nationalism and tight political control. Pakistan’s current government presents itself as a leader of Muslim countries.
Some analysts argue that Muslim countries, along with other Global South nations and China, can build an alliance against the United States, Israel, and India. They cite recent events as evidence. Pakistan used Chinese-made aircraft against India’s French-made jets. Observers see this as a sign of growing military strength. Pakistan has also strengthened defense ties with Saudi Arabia and expanded its arms exports. Some claim that this bloc has helped deter major attacks on Iran.
Contradictory Alliances
However, many facts weaken this argument. These same countries seek close ties with the United States. They sign military agreements and business deals with Washington. Pakistan’s leaders continue trade and investment talks with the US. Gulf states maintain strong trade relations with India and call it a strategic partner. The United Arab Emirates conducts billions of dollars in annual trade with Israel.
Selective Solidarity
Outside this region, Venezuela and Cuba openly criticize US influence. When US authorities detained Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, few governments protested strongly. The US has imposed long-term sanctions and an oil embargo on Cuba. In 2005, Cuba sent doctors to help after the earthquake in Pakistan. It also offered medical scholarships to Pakistani students. Today, only a few countries demand an end to sanctions on Cuba.
Global Rightward Shift
The world is changing, but right-wing and nationalist politics are expanding. The link between Hindutva, Zionism, and the Christian Right reflects this trend. At the same time, many Muslim countries, including Pakistan, do not follow a clear anti-imperialist path. Religious political groups still hold influence. Past support for militant groups has created serious problems.
Elites and Hope
Around the world, ruling elites use nationalism to protect their economic interests. They promote patriotic slogans while prioritizing profit and business deals.
Still, hope remains. Many Indians oppose Modi. Many Americans oppose Trump. Some Israelis support Palestinian rights. In Pakistan, progressive groups speak for ordinary people. These voices continue to challenge injustice across borders. They keep hope alive.
