Asymmetric Military Response: Israel and the United States attacked Iran two weeks ago. President Donald Trump claimed victory several times. Yet the fighting continues because Iran fights back in unexpected ways.
Iran Strikes Back
The attackers wanted to destroy Iran’s nuclear program. They also wanted to reduce its missile capability and change the regime. Iran only needed to survive to gain an advantage. So far, it has done more than survive. It struck back within hours, even after the attack killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several top IRGC commanders.
Underground Strategy
Iran spread its command and hid its assets. This strategy works. Bombs and missiles hit Iran in thousands, but its military still controls operations. Its communications remain intact. Leaders coordinate their statements.
Iran is large and mostly mountainous. US and Israeli air forces cannot hit every target. Iran learned from past wars. The 2003 Gulf War showed that air superiority can destroy a weak army. Iran avoided that mistake.
Underground Warfare
Iran moved its forces underground. It built tunnels hundreds of meters deep. It stores missiles, drones, and production facilities there. Hidden openings let Iran launch missiles safely.
Iran attacks US bases and other regional targets. It also strikes those it thinks support the aggression. Recently, the US hit an Iranian oil terminal on Kharg Island. Iran might retaliate against Gulf energy sites. This could disrupt global oil supplies.
Asymmetric Response
The US sent 2,500 Marines to the Middle East. This force is too small for a full ground attack. Iran can mine the Strait of Hormuz. It may use small submarines and underwater drones from tunnels. These can disrupt shipping.
Iran suffers losses but continues its asymmetric response. Its actions threaten the global economy. The US economy will feel the impact. Upcoming midterm elections may affect decisions in Washington.
Diplomatic Efforts
World leaders discuss the crisis. President Vladimir Putin spoke with Trump. President Xi Jinping may also intervene. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey help with diplomacy. Combined with Iran’s unconventional strategy, these efforts may lead to a solution.
