Many experts saw Xi’s words as a sign of China’s growing confidence. For years, China avoided calling itself a global challenger. Instead, it built close ties with developing countries. Now China seems more willing to show its global ambitions. This shift matters for countries like Pakistan.
US-China Rivalry
China built its confidence through economic growth. Over the past twenty years, it became a major manufacturing and trading power. It expanded its influence through technology, infrastructure, and industry. At the same time, the United States kept its strengths in finance, military power, technology, and global alliances. Both countries now compete in trade, artificial intelligence, finance, and global influence. This rivalry may shape the future world order.
China’s Strategic Approach
China wants to compete with the US but avoid military conflict. It prefers economic and technological competition. Still, the world expects China to take more responsibility in global security issues. One example is Iran. China has strong economic and political ties with Iran. Reports suggest that Trump and Xi discussed Iran’s nuclear program. These talks showed China’s quiet role in regional diplomacy.
Pakistan’s Diplomatic Role
Pakistan now plays an important diplomatic role. It helps maintain communication between Iran and the US. China supports these efforts but stays in the background. Before Trump’s visit, Chinese officials encouraged Pakistani leaders to support mediation. Pakistan denied taking instructions from China. Even so, many observers believe China wants Pakistan to play a visible role. This strategy helps China protect its interests without direct confrontation.
Regional Tensions and Mediation
Taiwan remains China’s biggest strategic concern. China considers Taiwan a core national issue. The US understands Taiwan’s importance. Many experts believe Taiwan could become a major point of conflict in the future. At the same time, tensions with Iran continue to create pressure in the region.
Pakistan’s role as a mediator gives it new opportunities. It can build trust with both Iran and the US. It can also improve its image in West Asia. However, mediators can start dialogue, but they cannot force agreements.
Pakistan’s Future Role
If Pakistan succeeds, it can strengthen its position as a middle power. It can work with countries like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt. At the same time, it must balance its ties with China and the US. It must also manage its rivalry with India. Pakistan now follows a practical foreign policy. It focuses on balance, flexibility, and diplomacy. Strong institutions and trusted diplomacy can help Pakistan protect its long-term interests.
