Embrace Everyone’s Voice: In 2025, the United Nations (UN) celebrates its 80th anniversary. We can celebrate, but we must also think about its future. The UN started after World War II to help countries work together and keep peace.
Global Cooperation
The UN stops large wars and encourages countries to talk instead of fight. Its peacekeeping work protects the world from another world war. The UN began after World War II. On June 26, 1945, delegates from 50 countries signed the UN Charter in San Francisco. It started on October 24, 1945. The UN aims to prevent war and support cooperation. Five countries—China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States—lead the Security Council to maintain peace.
Peace and Inclusion
The UN does many important things. Its peacekeepers stop small crises from turning into big wars. UN agencies like UNHCR, UNICEF, and the World Food Programme help people in need. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights guides countries. The Sustainable Development Goals unite nations to make life better. The UN headquarters sits in New York. This shows the United States’ power. But sometimes the host country uses its power in ways that conflict with the UN’s mission. This shows the UN needs change.
The UN cannot stay the same as in 1945. The world has changed, and the UN must change too. The UN should include more voices from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Inclusion is essential for the UN’s future.
Inclusive Future
Inclusion will give the UN more respect and authority. The UN must shift focus from old powers of 1945 to the global realities of 2025.
After 80 years, the UN faces a turning point. We should honor its achievements. But we must also act to make bold changes. By including more voices and adapting to today’s world, the UN can continue its work for peace, justice, and cooperation in the 21st century.
