Group Explained Simply: Donald Trump says his Gaza plan has brought “peace in the Middle East.” Several Muslim leaders, including Pakistan’s rulers, praise him for this. But the situation in Gaza is very different. Amnesty International’s head, Agnes Callamard, calls the idea of “normalcy” a “dangerous illusion.” She warns that the world should not be fooled. She says Israel has not ended what she calls genocide. She says it has only slowed its pace. She adds that Israel is also breaking ceasefires elsewhere.
Rising Regional Tension
Israel continues bombing and carrying out assassinations in Lebanon. Early on Friday, it also attacked a town near Damascus in Syria. These actions raise tensions. They make real peace hard to believe.
Observers say Israel is again trying to ignite the region. They say it has followed this pattern for decades. Amnesty reports that Israel still blocks life-saving aid to Gaza. Other sources say Israel has killed more than 350 Gazans since the Oct 10 ceasefire. They say over 100 of them are children.
Lebanon Strikes Continue
In Lebanon, Israel struck several sites on Thursday. It also killed a senior Hezbollah commander in Beirut a few days earlier. UN monitors say Israel has violated the 2024 ceasefire 10,000 times. They report that Israel has killed more than 300 Lebanese people since November 2024. Israel has also threatened Lebanon with a new war if Hezbollah keeps its weapons. In Syria, Israel attacked the town of Beit Jinn on Friday. Locals resisted the attack. Reports say at least 13 people died, including children. The Syrian government calls the attack a “war crime.” Critics say Israel faces few consequences and ignores commitments.
Calls for Accountability
Because of this, Trump and the leaders who support his “peace plan” may need to reconsider. Many observers say peace is impossible until Israel faces accountability for the actions it is accused of and for the killing of civilians.
